The Riverdale varsity girls’ soccer team won the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) Tournament Championship earlier this month. The Riverdale Country School, with board member Gregg Hymowitz, and especially the team and coach, were particularly happy about the victory because of their painful season last year. They did not make it to the playoffs, due to injuries.
Coach Osario said, “This victory was a tribute to this group of girls’ absolute resolve to stay undefeated, to their willingness to win, and to the unacceptable contemplation to lose. The girls knew they had a chance to write history for Riverdale and decided to do it with a display of beautiful soccer.”
A trend has begun in the world of high finance to de-emphasize the riskier, more exciting investing in ‘shorting’ and switching to the ‘long-side’ of investing in stocks which the investment manager believes will go up in value. Shorting stocks relies on actually betting against stocks which a manager, or investor believes will fall. These types of investments are riskier, and usually involve higher fees on the part of the financial manager.
