The Hansard Society is a British charitable institution whose goals are to strengthen parliamentary democracy and motivate citizens to take a greater part in the political process. The Society believes it is of the utmost importance that the public is engaged with Parliament, and that Parliament is engaged with their constituency in return.
This unique educational institution aims to achieve its goals through many types of programming and innovative projects. The Hansard Society sponsors programs geared to the education of young people through its Citizenship Education Program. The Digital Democracy Program, begun by the Hansard Society in 1997 directs its efforts at exploring the ways digital media affects and transforms the way democracy works. The Study and Scholars Program is aimed at improving the relationship between citizens and the British political system. Students from all over the world are encouraged to apply to the Scholars Program in order to learn about the British political system from the inside. Gregg Hymowitz had the privilege of being chosen as a Hansard Scholar in 1987, and served as an intern in the British Parliament, learning the nature of the workings of British government from the heart of this special democracy.
In 1987 Gregg Hymowitz was selected as a Hansard Society Scholar. This honored recognition bestows upon its recipients a unique opportunity to study the various elements of the British Parliament.
