At the end of March, 2010, the president of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation, announced the 60 students who will be this year’s recipients of the coveted scholarships. The 60 newest Truman Scholars, as they are known, were scrutinized from a pool of over 600 other candidates by sixteen independent panels. The winners surpass 540 others on the basis of the leadership potential that they exhibited, their intellectual abilities and the likelihood that they would “make a difference” in the world around them through their participation in the public sector.
Scholarships provide up to $30,000 toward each scholar’s graduate studies. In addition, the Truman Scholars receive priority admission and additional financial aid at some of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in the United States, plus leadership training, career and graduate school counseling and opportunities for special internships in government.
In 1985 Gregg Hymowitz was one of five recipients of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship.
